Great Lakes Glamping Pop-Up Dinner in Central Lake
At the end of July, Miranda Crace from Spoke Events invited me out to photograph (and partake in) a beautiful pop-up dinner at Great Lakes Glamping - a new space in Central Lake where canvas tents dot forested meadows and the mission is to disconnect to reconnect.
Soph Duch, the chef behind Tropic Tacos prepared a colorful feast sourced from a local farm as well as a few Detroit farmers - fire-roasted kabobs, beets paired with crème fraîche that can convert anybody into a beet lover, baba ganoush, pita and the most delicious pavlova I have ever had in. my. life: peach curd, thyme and black pepper macerated plums and peaches, mascarpone, whipped cream, fire roasted pistachios and a drizzle of local honey. All garnished with edible flowers from Coriander Kitchen and Farm and paired with a Blaufränkisch Rosé from Cellar 1914.
Miranda curated a beautiful table - we sat close to the Earth surrounded by green, and Soph’s delicious eats were accompanied by festive flowers from Northwind Blooms Flower Farm and simple white candles and dinnerware.
It was a complete sensory experience and I haven’t stopped thinking about it (and that stone fruit pavlova, truly).
Here is just a sample of the magic of that evening. Enjoy!
